    Urban landscaping is the discipline that makes it possible to bring nature back to cities in order to contribute towards improving sustainability and our quality of life.
    It is a cross-cutting discipline that needs to be undertaken using a multidisciplinary approach. That is why the Weekend Course in Urban Landscaping will cover all the aspects relating to building a city, its transport and infrastructures, cohabiting with organic aspects: water and forest areas, gardens, connecting greenways for pedestrians and cyclists etc.

    Objectives

    • Introduce the student to urban landscaping, a facet of the study of landscaping and gardening focused on public spaces
    • Illustrate the evolution of human beings’ relationship with nature and understand how they have settled in cities since prehistory
    • Provide a knowledge base about the city and its spaces where people interact Discover its different lines and geography, as well as the different city development processes
    • Provide the student with detailed knowledge of the building and technical problems involved in construction, urban environments, and gardens on paved areas and vertical walls
    • Analyse different ways of bringing “green” to cities. Vertical gardening and green roofs. Sustainability and urban vegetable gardens
    • Obtain a knowledge base about the criteria for selecting plants, trees and shrubs depending on the features of buildings with shallow soils, under conditions of pollution and vandalism, and as a carbon sink component
    • Introduce the student to the importance of trees in cities, the selection criteria, plant nursery techniques, their aesthetic appearance and taxonomy, and their contribution to the welfare and sustainability of cities
    • Perform a team project aimed at successfully completing a microurbanism design, such as the design of a square, incorporating all the knowledge that the students have received
